Superficial LASIK (PRK)

The superficial LASIK operation is considered one of the most successful operations at Al-Rowad Eye and Lasik Hospital. It is a type of refractive surgery to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness (farsightedness) and astigmatism.
The PRK operation is one of the operations that requires a relatively longer recovery time than the normal LASIK, but it provides the advantage of not having any significant effects of the LASIK operation on the eye. Especially for applicants to military colleges (such as the police – the army) and the operation is done by removing the visible layer of the cornea (it rebuilds itself very quickly)
And then make repairs and modifications in the cornea so that the light falling on it is reflected on the retina and the vision process is much better,
It corrects the curvature or curvature of the cornea, and the surface is removed using a surgical scalpel or other techniques according to the condition of each patient. The excimer laser is applied to the area in the cornea to reshape the surface curvature with high accuracy. One of its drawbacks, to be fair, is that it takes more time in the recovery process than other LASIK operations.
Although there is no cure for LASIK eye surgery, PRK is still generally performed and offers advantages over LASIK for some patients. The PRK operation was the first type of laser eye surgery to correct vision and although the PRK operation takes a little longer
The superficial laser procedure works by reshaping the cornea with an excim laser allowing the light entering the eye to focus properly on the retina for clear vision.
How is the superficial LASIK procedure performed?
The eye surgeon at the highest-equipped hospital removes a central area of the corneal epithelium with a solution of a blunt surgical instrument, which is one of the global devices available to us, then an EXCIMER laser is used to precisely reshape the curvature of the corneal surface. This highly specialized computer controlled laser delivers pulses of cool ultraviolet light. It removes microscopic amounts of tissue in a precise pattern. A contact lens ‘bandage’ is then placed over the cornea to help protect the eye,New epithelial cells grow in about four or five days, after which the contact lenses are removed by an ophthalmologist.
PRK is used mostly with people who want to apply to police or war colleges, because the advantage of superficial LASIK is that the excimer laser beam shines on the surface of the cornea waiting for the corneal cells to grow again, as this was not detected in the Harbiye examination and others.
Required examinations before the operation:
-Fundus examination
-Eye pressure measurement
-Mapping the cornea and measuring its thickness.
-You must refrain from wearing contact lenses approximately one week before the operation – to stop taking blood-thinning medications.
Do not apply cosmetics 3 days before the operation.
